Day-by-Day Tour

   Day 01

   Arrival ↣ Colombo

   Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, where private assistance will welcome you before your transfer to Colombo. Settle into a comfortable boutique city hotel and take some time to relax after your journey. In the evening, head towards Galle Face Green to enjoy Colombo’s oceanfront atmosphere as the city comes alive. An optional visit to Chabad House can also be arranged for travellers interested in community connection and dining.

   Day 02

   Colombo ↣ Sigiriya

   Leave Colombo behind and travel inland through rural villages, paddy fields and ancient irrigation landscapes towards Sigiriya. An optional visit to the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple can be included along the way, offering an introduction to Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage.Arrive in Sigiriya and settle into a nature-focused retreat surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of the Cultural Triangle. Spend the evening at leisure with an optional village walk or wellness experience.

   Day 03

   Sigiriya & Cultural Triangle

   Begin early with a climb of the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, exploring its ancient gardens, frescoes and royal remains while enjoying sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. Later, experience a more personal side of rural Sri Lanka through a village encounter featuring traditional cooking, canoe rides and interaction with local communities. An optional safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park can be arranged for those seeking a wildlife experience.

   Day 04

   Sigiriya ↣ Trincomalee

   Travel east towards the coast, watching the landscape gradually change from dry-zone countryside to tropical coastal scenery. Arrive in Trincomalee and settle into a beachfront resort with time to enjoy the surrounding coastline. In the evening, visit the revered Koneswaram Temple, dramatically positioned above the Indian Ocean at Swami Rock. Take in the sweeping coastal views before returning to your resort for a relaxed evening.

   Day 05

   Trincomalee: Ocean & Marine Life

   Spend the day discovering Trincomalee from the water. An optional excursion to Pigeon Island offers opportunities for snorkelling among coral reefs and tropical marine life, while seasonal whale-watching excursions provide another way to experience the surrounding ocean. Return to the coast for a relaxed afternoon with time for kayaking or beach leisure. As evening approaches, enjoy the sunset along the beautiful shores of Nilaveli Beach.

   Whale watching season: May–September, subject to sea and operating conditions.

6. 06

   Day 06

   Trincomalee ↣ Pasikudah

   Continue south along the eastern coastline towards Pasikudah, known for its exceptionally calm, shallow waters and beautiful sandy bay. Settle into a beachfront resort and allow the afternoon to unfold at an easy pace. Enjoy swimming in the warm shallows, try paddleboarding or explore the coastline by bicycle. With little to do but enjoy the setting, Pasikudah offers a peaceful change of rhythm after the marine adventures of Trincomalee.

   Day 07

   Pasikudah ↣ Arugam Bay

   Travel south through eastern coastal villages towards Arugam Bay, one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated surf destinations. Settle into a relaxed surf lodge and take time to enjoy the easy-going character of this famous coastal town. As the afternoon fades, explore the beach cafés, enjoy a relaxed drink by the shore and experience Arugam Bay’s distinctive surf-town atmosphere.

   Day 08

   Arugam Bay: Surf & Leisure

   Begin the day with a surf session at one of Arugam Bay’s well-known breaks, such as Main Point, Whiskey Point or Peanut Farm. Whether you are an experienced surfer or joining a lesson, the eastern coast offers an ideal setting for enjoying the ocean. Later, choose an optional lagoon safari or yoga session, followed by an afternoon of café hopping, beach relaxation and unhurried coastal exploration.

   Best surfing season: approximately May–September.

   Day 09

   Arugam Bay ↣ Ella

   Leave the coast behind and travel inland towards the central highlands, passing through changing landscapes of forest, mountains and waterfalls. Stop at the impressive Ravana Falls before continuing towards Ella. Arrive at your hillside retreat and enjoy time to unwind surrounded by Ella’s dramatic mountain scenery. Later, explore the town’s relaxed café culture and enjoy the cool evening atmosphere.

    Day 10

    Ella Exploration Day

    Spend the morning exploring Ella’s spectacular surroundings with a hike to Little Adam’s Peak or the more challenging Ella Rock. Continue to the famous Nine Arches Bridge, set amid lush tea-covered hills and forested slopes. The rest of the day can be shaped around your interests, with optional ziplining, ATV adventures or waterfall visits. Alternatively, simply slow down and enjoy Ella’s cafés, mountain views and relaxed atmosphere.

    Day 11

    Ella ↣ Ratnapura

    Descend from the highlands towards Ratnapura, Sri Lanka’s historic city of gems, travelling through tea estates, forests and increasingly lush lowland scenery. The changing landscape offers a beautiful final transition from the mountains towards the island’s wet zone. Check into a boutique nature stay and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by greenery. Depending on your interests, spend time beside the river, explore the gardens or discover the traditional world of gem mining through an optional cultural experience.

    Day 12

    Ratnapura ↣ Colombo ↣ Departure

    Enjoy a final morning in Ratnapura before travelling towards Colombo through the island’s verdant lowlands. Depending on your departure time, there may be an opportunity for some final shopping, café time or relaxed exploration in Colombo. Continue to Bandaranaike International Airport by private transfer for your departure, bringing your Eastern Horizon journey to a close after a memorable combination of beaches, waves, wildlife, heritage and highland landscapes.
